Viewers loved the elderly couples discussing romance on the Valentine's Day special of the Late Late Show
RTÉ RTÉ
FIRST UP, RYAN Tubridy had a little chat with Joan and Pierce Butler about what has sustained their 54-year-long relationship.
The pair of them, who still sit holding hands after all of this time agreed that the romance was still very much alive. Joan said you don’t have to ‘make romance’, because it’s ‘just there’, while Pierce told Ryan Tubridy that ‘fear plays a big part in that’.

Next up, Ryan met lovely Dublin couple Leo and Bridie.

When Bridie was sixteen, she went to a 21st birthday party with her boyfriend, and left with Leo. The pair have been together since and have 18 grandkids to run around after. Ryan asked what Leo had, that made her choose him over her old boyfriend and she joked “A few bob. He always had a few bob.”

Bridie then went on to tell Ryan that she sits down every single night to watch The Late Late Show, which she refers to as herself “having a yap with Ryan.” Sometimes Leo watches it with her, but she usually has to wake him up and send him to bed because his snoring ruins the show.
Once Leo’s gone to bed, Bridie says it’s time to “lash a few cans down”, before telling Ryan that she needs four cans of Coors Light to get her through the average episode of The Late Late Show.
The mention of Coors Light received rapturous applause from the audience, who were pretty well-oiled.
Finally, Ryan got to Colette and Michael.

51 years of marriage began because Michael was Colette’s postman. At their local dancehall, he approached her and invited her upstairs for ‘a mineral’ – she explains that back in those days, they didn’t have bars with alcohol. The audience, who are clearly very fond of drink, booed at this. It’s all history after that mineral bar.
