Here's why I am obsessed with Hugh Grant's extremely eventful 2010s

He has had *five* children in seven years.

LAST NIGHT, ELIZABETH Hurley appeared on Watch What Happens Live and casually announced that her former flame, Hugh Grant, had welcomed his fifth child with partner Anna Eberstein last week.

“He had another one last week,” she told Andy Cohen. “He has five. He was over 50 when he spawned them all.” Let’s take a moment to reflect on those last two sentences. He has five. He was over 50 when he spawned them all.

Here are the facts: Hugh Grant welcomed his first child in September 2011 when he was 51 years old. Fast forward to six and a half years later and he is now a father-of-five.

A middle-aged actor starting a family in his fifties isn’t unusual- just look at George Clooney. Having five babies in less than seven years, however, is impressive, if not borderline boastful. “Look at how virile I am!”

Dig a little deeper into Hugh Grant’s personal life and you’ll find he’s had quite the eventful decade. Allow me to explain why I am so obsessed.

In 2011, Hugh Grant welcomed a daughter with a receptionist named Tinglan Hong. His spokesperson described their relationship as nothing more than a “fleeting affair”.

He and the mother had a fleeting affair and, while this was not planned, Hugh could not be happier or more supportive.

The following spring, he appeared on Ellen and revealed that this parenthood thing wasn’t so bad after all.

Everyone was right all these years, saying, ‘Hugh, why don’t you have some children? It changes your life.’ Now that I have [a child], it is life changing. I recommend it. Get some!

He also revealed that his daughter’s birth was a surprise and that his daughter’s Chinese name translated to ‘happy surprise’. So now!

Having belatedly realised that having children was the best thing ever, Hugh Grant welcomed a second child in September 2012, this time with Swedish producer Anna Eberstein.

This, however, was kept under wraps until January 2014 when Hugh Grant was named on the child’s birth certificate.

It was subsequently reported that Grant and Eberstein had been dating for some time, presumably around the same time as the aforementioned “fleeting affair”.

In February 2013, he welcomed a third child. Only this time it was with Tinglan Hong. A twist!

Grant confirmed the arrival in February 2013.

Once it was revealed that Grant had fathered a child in September 2013, the tabloids started doing the sums and realised that the two women’s pregnancies would have overlapped.

*gasp*

Per Daily Mail:

His third love-child was revealed yesterday – a son born to Swedish television producer Anna Eberstein. She would have been pregnant at the same time as Grant’s other lover Tinglan Hong, who gave birth to his son Felix Chang three months afterwards. Miss Hong is also the mother of Grant’s first child.

Damn, Hugh.

Fortunately, things seemed to calm down for a while. Three children in eighteen months? Sure, you’d never keep up that kind of pace.

It wasn’t until December 2015 that he welcomed another child. It was his second with Anna Eberstein and fourth in four years. Say what you will about Hugh Grant, but he is  nothing if not efficient. Maybe he’d make a good Prime Minister after all.

Last month, it was confirmed that Hugh Grant was expecting his fifth child, once again with Eberstein.

He also opened up more about fatherhood and the ways in which it had changed him. (Side-note: isn’t it nice to see actors hounded about being a father?)

You can’t help it. It’s lovely to have all that love around. Suddenly you love someone more than yourself – it’s unheard of in my case – and they love you. It’s enchanting.

Additionally, he revealed that he makes his children laugh by putting underpants and nappies on his head, and flashing his bum. Those old classics.

Now the main question most people will have is how he makes this situation work.

Grant has been reluctant to discuss it and only commented that the situation was, “Good. It’s all nice.”

He previously bought a house for Hong and their two children, while he and Eberstein purchased a house on Notting Hill (how appropriate!) in 2016. It may all be a little unconventional, but all parties seem happy.

Mazel tov, I say!

All in all, it kind of sounds like the plot of a Hugh Grant film.
