Despite their small population, the town managed to give a very big welcome to the Hayes High School Marching Band who travelled from Delaware in Ohio to Mayo, to perform in Lahardane’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.
Lahardane’s warm welcome for their guests was so remarkable that it made news across the Atlantic.
Mid West Radio shared a clip of Fox News discussing Lahardane (which they pronounced as ‘Leather-dane’) and talking about what the Hayes High School students got up to during their time in Mayo.

During their five-day trip to Ireland, the students from Delaware stayed with host families, worked on farms and watched some Gaelic football.

A St. Patrick's Day parade in a small Mayo village managed to make it onto Fox News in Ohio this week

Despite their small population, the town managed to give a very big welcome to the Hayes High School Marching Band who travelled from Delaware in Ohio to Mayo, to perform in Lahardane’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.

The people at Fox had no idea what Gaelic was, and just assumed that it was “football with sticks” or “soccer with a beer in hand.”
If these students found themselves anywhere near a pub when Ireland won on Saturday, it’s likely that they’ll never forget this St. Patrick’s Day.
