Steven Spielberg has been considering what to do with the Indiana Jones series once Harrison Ford retires from the role, and he told The Sun that he thinks it could be time for Indiana Jones to take “a different form”.
We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan, and there would be nothing wrong with that.
OK, well not necessarily, Spielberg. Jones is a surname. Indiana’s first name is Henry, so the new character could have literally any name in the world.
Regardless of the issue with renaming the character, Spielberg isn’t embarrassed to recognise the positive influence of women:
My mom was strong. She had a had voice, she had a very strong opinion. I have been very lucky to be influenced by women, several of whom I have just loved madly – my mom and my wife.
Judging by the success of female led action movies over the last few years, it’s safe to say that this will go down pretty well. But who could play Indiana Joan? People have been speculating and some are even suggesting Saoirse Ronan.
