Claire Foy will receive £200,000 in back pay after 'The Crown's' Gender pay dispute
Netflix Netflix
IN MARCH OF this year, we learned that Claire Foy was earning $40,000 per episode while she was working on the extremely successful Netflix series The Crown.
We also learned that, despite having the lead role and playing the character that the entire show was centred on, Claire Foy was earning less than her co-star Matt Smith.
Why? Well, the only real justification was the fact that Matt Smith had starred in Doctor Who. However, Claire was the star and has won both a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II. Matt Smith has yet to take home any awards for his performance in The Crown.

According to The Mail on Sunday, Matt Smith had earned £10,000 more than Claire Foy for each episode. Foy is reportedly now set to receive a lump sum of £200,000 (just over €225,000), backdating her pay over the last two series of The Crown.
Just last week, Matt Smith commented on the situation:
The company who produced The Crown, Left Bank Pictures, have accepted responsibility and apologised to both Claire Foy and Matt Smith.
