Britain’s Forgotten Slave Owners (RTÉ 2, 8.30pm)

Historian David Olusoga uses this documentary to uncover Britain’s forgotten slave owners through various means. Tonight, David traces the bitter propaganda war between the pro-slavery lobby and the abolitionists, revealing that paying off slave owners for the loss of their human property was, ultimately, the only way to bring the system to an end. David takes a look at the records at the National Archives, which list the 46,000 British slave owners who lived across the British empire. Through this list, David discovers that there were 3,000 slave owners (including clergy and politicians) who lived in Britain that owned half of the slaves across the empire.

Love Island: Aftersun (3e, 10pm)

By the time you’re watching Aftersun tonight, the final of this year’s Love Island will be mere HOURS away. It’s finally coming to an end, for better or for worse. Caroline Flack will be presenting tonight’s Aftersun live from the villa itself and she has got plenty of gossip, unseen footage and exclusive interviews to share with you before tomorrow night’s big finale.

The Football Club: Artist in Residence (Channel 4, 10.05pm)

A series in which artists immerse themselves in unlikely, but fascinating, environments. Tonight, portrait artist Tai Schierenberg takes on the task of working as an artist in residence for a season at West Bromwich Albian FC, during one of their most turbulent seasons in living memory. The project starts as a behind-the-scenes look at the club, but turns into an emotional drama as the team battle to prevent relegation. Finally, it ends with some stunning portraits of West Brom’s players, their biggest fans and and ex-manager Tony Pulis.
