IN SEPTEMBER OF last year, the National Wax Museum Plus had to remove their wax figure of Pope John Paul II after it was found smashed in The Father Ted Room.

In a statement at the time, The National Wax Museum said that they were unsure if there was foul play involved, but that the damage was extensive and would take a considerable amount of time to sort out.

Initially, the museum estimated that repairs would take up to four months and could cost €5,000. Now, a year after the damage was done, they’ve finally got Pope John Paul II back on display.

National Wax Museum Plus general manager Ed Coleman said:

The museum is very happy to have the waxwork of Pope John Paul II back on display, along with the original 1979 Popemobile, it’s an icon of the time. It took approximately six months to make the [original] waxwork, but considering the damage caused, it took a little longer for it to return to our display.

The Pope wax figure also somehow bears a vague resemblance to both Micheál Martin and Dáithí Ó Sé. Maybe he can go on a Rose of Tralee display in a few years once all of the Pope visit mania dies down.
