What to watch on TV tonight: Thursday

This is the telly everyone will be talking about tomorrow.

DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.

Inside James’s (Virgin Media One, 10pm)

A new documentary series looking at life inside of Dublin’s St. James’s Hospital, one of Ireland’s largest. Last year, a record number of 400,000 patients were treated there and the demand continues to rise. In tonight’s episode, the series opens by introducing viewers to 31-year-old Tracie Doolin, a mother of two, who is having a hysterectomy following her diagnosis of cervical cancer. However, the planned surgery could be abandoned if the cancer has spread beyond her reproductive system.

Grayson Perry: Rites of Passage (Channel 4, 10pm)

A series in which English artist Grayson Perry explores the landmark events in our lives: birth, coming of age, marriage and death. Grayson begins his exploration of rituals for birth on the Indonesian island of Bali, where, in local tradition, a new-born baby is seen not as a fully part of our human world until it is 105 days old. When the baby reaches its 105th day, the family stage an elaborate ceremony. Perry then examines some of the different ways children are brought into the world in modern Britain, by meeting a nursing team at a neo-natal unit as they battle to keep premature babies alive.

Rich House, Poor House (Virgin Media Two, 8pm)

Documentary series looking at two families from opposite ends of the income divide as they swap houses and lifestyles for a week. The Webb family leave their rented three-bed maisonette on a council estate to spend a week living in the Heasman family’s luxury 16th century farmhouse set in six acres in rural Essex.
