What to watch on TV tonight: Monday
DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.
Shipwrecked (E3, 9pm)
Tonight, the classic Channel 4 reality show returns for a brand new series, featuring a whole host of brand new contestants who we’ll definitely see advertising teeth whitening kits on Instagram in a few weeks time. With names like Kush and Kalia, we can expect the contestants to remind us of some of our Love Island favourites. All of the contestants will be battling it out on two uninhabited Pacific islands, competing for a cut of £50,000 in one of two tribes: the Tigers and the Sharks.
Steph & Dom: Can Cannabis Save Our Son? (Channel 4, 9pm)
Documentary following former Gogglebox stars Steph and Dom Parker as they try and help their 18-year-old son Max, who has severe epilepsy and suffers more than 100 seizures a day – any one of which could be fatal. The pair of them are much more serious than we’re used to in this honest look at the effect their son’s illness has on the whole family, and how they’re coping with being denied medical marijuana to help ease Max’s seizures. The film follows Stephen, Dom and their daughter Honour as they try to work out just how effective medical cannabis could be in their son’s case.
Inside Europe: 10 Years of Turmoil (BBC Two, 9pm)
A brand new documentary series telling the stories of the fight to hold the European Union together, with contributions from heads of states and their closest advisers. The opening edition reveals how David Cameron was pushed by the Conservative Party’s fixation with Europe to call the Brexit referendum, with Jean-Claude Juncker and Donald Tusk discussing how Cameron negotiated with EU leaders over the concessions he felt he needed to win the referendum – and how the Europeans saw it.
Everybody’s talking about… Call The Midwife’s cleft lip storyline.
In last night’s episode, Varlie helped a mother deliver and come to terms with her baby’s birth defect, teaching her how to feed and care for the baby, and assuring her that the baby wasn’t injured but just formed differently.
BBC BBC
Fans of the show have been applauding it on social media for including a baby with a clef lip. One fan wrote, “As someone who’s got a cleft lip, I appreciate it so much when TV shows address what it is and especially when they explain how it occurs. Thank you Call The Midwife.” Another wrote, “A cleft isn’t the barrier for kids that it once was. The NHS can do amazing things these days.” (Digital Spy)
