Fertility Shock (RTÉ One, 9.35pm)
A one-off documentary wherein journalist Dearbhail McDonald discusses why Ireland is running out of babies. Irish people are having babies later and later, and when they do start a family, it is with fewer and fewer children than ever before. McDonald examines how the combination of an ageing population and fewer children is creating a demographic time bomb.
The Brexit Millionaires: Channel 4 Dispatches (Channel 4, 8pm)
Current affairs series. Who has gotten rich since the referendum by capitalising on the almost unprecedented political uncertainty around Britain’s exit from the EU? Entering the world of the super-rich, the programme looks at those who have reportedly made millions by ‘shorting’, or betting against Britain. Reporter Antony Barnett also examines other financial winners post-referendum, from the politicians paid for speeches and advisory roles to the consultancy firms brought in to help government during this turbulent time. Barnett also explores the other side of the story, meeting the people who do not have the means to Brexit-proof their livelihoods.
Pilgrim Hill (TG4, 9.30pm)
Rural drama following middle-aged farmer Jimmy Walshe, who is facintg hard times as he struggles to make a living in the Irish countryside, in the home he shares with his critically ill father. Life has been tough on Jimmy over the years, but things are only getting worse, as his life hits a rough patch both on and off the farm.
Everybody’s talking about… Daniel and Majella’s road trip to the USA.
They returned last night and were as gas as ever. Well worth a catch-up if you missed it.
