THE YEAR WAS 2004. The show was Saturday Night Live. And the person doing a bizarre improvised barn dance was Ashlee Simpson.

And why was that?

Well, because she had just been snared lip-syncing to her biggest track on national television, and did what anyone would do in that instance and barn-danced until she couldn’t barn-dance no more.

And on that fateful night, the then 20-year-old went even more rogue, and started blaming her band.

I feel so bad. My band started playing the wrong song and I didn’t know what to do.

And now after 14 years of keeping schtum, Ashlee has finally prepared a statement about the incident.

Nah, not really, she just recalled the incident when E! jogged her memory and she simply decided to reply instead of barn-dance.

It’s definitely not difficult to talk about. That was a very long time ago.

Ooh, go on.

It’s something that happened to me and things in life happen, and they make you stronger. They make you a better performer and a better person.

Hmmm..

I think things like that build your character and your strength, and it’s how you handle them that matters.

And whether she’d throw her band under the bus this time around seems doubtful.

I was a teen, an angsty girl on my show back in the day and now I’m a woman and a mother. I want people to know where I’m at and who I am in my life.
