ASHLEY GRAHAM BROUGHT Gwyneth Paltrow to tears on the latter’s podcast this week.
And it all came down to the fact that Ashley chose not to have sex with her husband of eight years, Justin Ervin, until after they made it up the aisle together.
While appearing on the Goop podcast, Ashley explained that past relationships had caused her to question her self-worth, and after ending a two-year relationship with a man she described as ”mentally, physically, emotionally abusive”, the model took a different perspective on her approach to sex and dating.
“I knew that I was a stronger woman for breaking up with him, and in feeling stronger for breaking up with him I was like, ‘What is it that I need to do to change myself so I don’t get back into that situation?’, she told Gwyneth.
And in that ‘aha’ moment, I was like, my problem is I keep giving it up too soon, I keep having sex too soon with these guys.
31-year-old Ashley explained that she met Justin through volunteering at church in 2009, and after two dates, Ashley said they were ‘inseparable’, ultimately marrying in 2010.
As it turned out, Justin had also decided to abstain from sex until marriage.
He and I did not break my rule, and his rule as well, because I didn’t know that he was also trying to wait until he was married to have sex as well.
Ashley’s re-telling of her story moved Gwyneth to tears, with the Goop founder saying: “I have to tell you, in all my podcasts this is the only time I’ve cried since Oprah.”
