Asia O'Hara issues an apology following mishap during RuPaul's Drag Race performance

‘If you are unhappy with me, I understand.”

Warning: If you have yet to watch the season 10 finale of Ru Paul’s Drag Race, this articles contains spoilers.

ASIA O’HARA has posted a heartfelt apology on her Instagram page following her performance in the season finale of Ru Paul’s Drag Race.

As part of her act in the lip sync finale, Asia had planned to release butterflies from her costume, but the creatures failed to take flight upon their release.

Many of the insects struggled before falling from Asia’s costume onto the stage beneath her feet – something which Asia is extremely regretful over.

Acknowledging the on-stage mishap and the implications born of using animals for entertainment purposes, Asia issued an apology to anyone who was distressed by the outcome of her performance.

I just want to let everyone know how sad and heartbroken I am by the way my lip sync performance during the finale of RuPauls Drag Race turned out.

Offering an explanation into the motivation behind the use of butterflies, she continued:

Despite months of research and rehearsing with a professional company, what I hoped would be an amazing and safe display of optimism and a surprise for everyone including production and the network it did not go as planned. I would like to publicly offer the entire world my deepest apology.

Asia sought to quash any suggestion that she does not feel remorse over the outcome of her performance.

It’s important that everyone knows that I would never purposely hurt any living being and have the utmost respect for all animals.

In an effort to make amends for the ill-advised decision and subsequent on-stage mishap, Asia has pledged to volunteer with the ASPCA.

Over the next year, my friends and I will be donating over 100 volunteer hours to the ASPCA, an organisation that has been dedicated to the fair treatment of animals since 1866.

Asia finished with a final apology, which has been met with support from tens of thousands of Instagram users today.

Your willingness to acknowledge a mistake and take action from it is just one example of what an outstanding human being you are.
You are the most humble, beautiful soul and I know this. You are incredible and it broke my heart immensly to see you so down in public recently. (sic)
Nobody’s perfect and we ALL make mistakes. The way you’re handling what happened to you at the finale says a lot about you.
