RESIDENTS OF A housing block in New York were horrified when it emerged a giant rat had been living there too.
New York Daily News brings us the story and a quite frankly terrifying photograph of the giant rat impaled on a pitchfork owned by Housing Authority worker Jose Rivera.
Marcy Houses, which counts rapper Jay Z as a former resident, is a housing project in Brooklyn.
Jose Rivera told the NY Daily News that the rat isn’t the only one in the building – and that he spotted three of them while filling a rat hole last week.
The head of the Marcy Houses Tenant Association, Naomi Colon, said that there had been a number of sightings of the large rat over the last six years.
The rat is a Gambian pouched rat, which is actually a common pet rat, though imports of them have been banned since 2003 because of a monkeypox outbreak.
These rats can grow to four pounds – or even bigger.
