IF YOU WERE old enough to see over the counter at a record store in 1996, chances are you bought a copy of this single, Spaceman, by Babylon Zoo.
The first few 40 seconds of the track were used in a Levi’s ad, catapulting the unknown band (fronted by Jas Mann, who then mortified himself on Brass Eye) to the top of the charts.
The only problem was, the very section of the song used in the ad was thought by many to be best part… so we forgive you if you just re-listen to that bit over and over again.
Whatever happened to the super-earnest Babylon Zoo? Their late-90s follow up album to The Boy With the X-Ray Eyes sadly bombed, and Mann now runs the company Indomina.
