BAFTA nominations: check out the big five (Video)
THE FILM AWARDS SEASON is in full swing and the nominations for this year’s BAFTAs have been announced.
The King’s Speech and Black Swan look good for a few awards apiece as they received 14 and 12 nominations respectively.
Colin Firth and Natalie Portman, who won Golden Globes for Best Leading Actor and Actress last weekend, could pick up the BAFTA equivalents after being nominated in those categories for the British awards.
Other films receiving multiple nominations include Inception (nine categories, including Best Film, Director, and Original Screenplay), 127 Hours (eight), True Grit (eight), and The Social Network (six).
The Social Network beat fellow BAFTA Best Film nominees Inception, Black Swan and The King’s Speech to the Best Motion Picture award at the Golden Globes.
Late British actor Pete Postlethwaite – who appears in the Northern Irish film due out in April, Killing Bono – is nominated for his supporting role in The Town. Graffiti artist Banksy also gets a nod for his debut film, Exit Through the Gift Shop.
The awards will be hosted by former-BBC presenter Jonathan Ross on 13 February at London’s Royal Opera House.
Check out the trailers for the five films nominated for the Best Film BAFTA:
1. Black Swan (Irish release date: 21 January)
