This new 'transparent' messaging app is a chilling vision of things to come

A chilling precedent.

THIS NEW ANDROID app is one on the most terrifying concepts we’ve seen in a long time.

Texting people involves a lot of pondering, editing, re-reading, re-wording, emoticon changes, all before the eventual send.

Beam has taken this ritual and set it on fire. The new app promises to show you everything your text buddy is typing. EVERYTHING. In REAL TIME.

Beam promises “Experience the nuances of having a conversation in real time”, outside of an ‘actual conversation’, of course.

Think of it like a Google document.

Just imagine the potential horrors.

  • You’re drunk
  • You are getting rejected
  • You have an ill-advised sarcastic joke and the tone looks wrong when written down
  • You are making a pathetic excuse

An advantage is that you can delete messages after you’ve sent them, which will be a God-send after a few regrettable rants.

Thanks Beam, but ultimately–no thanks. We can’t take the honesty.
