10 places to get a good cup of coffee in Cork
FORGET STARBUCKS. Cork (being the rebel county) has seen a proliferation of independent coffee houses pop up, serving extremely good brews.
Not necessarily ranked in order.
1. Filter
Facebook Facebook
Cork’s leading speciality coffee shop, serving an incredible range of Badger & Dodo and 3fe coffees, among other lesser known but quality other brands. They do filter, espresso or Aeropress, depending on your preference and you’ll even get some coffee education from your server. Not much seating though – it’s more like a coffee bar – so here’s hoping they expand soon!
2. Cork Coffee Roasters
Facebook Facebook
The city’s original coffee specialists serving up their beautifully home roasted Rebel Blend. This roast is on the dark side of medium and is extremely popular with Corkonians looking for a much needed caffeine hit to get them through the day.
3. Union Grind
Union Grind Cork Union Grind Cork
A new kid on this constantly transforming block by the quays. Serving artisan coffees, roasted in Ireland (at the moment it’s single source Costa Rican) and run by young owners who seem to really care about their coffee and their customers. They also do music nights so sip your coffee and catch a gig here.
4. Alchemy Coffee & Bookstore
Facebook Facebook
Serving smooth 3fe coffee and specialising in latte art, Alchemy is the perfect place for coffee lovers to hang out. Arty interior and stimulating conversations to accompany an excellent cuppa.
5. House Cafe

The coffee in this airy Opera House cafe changes seasonally and is always divine. They choose bright to caramel Golden Bean flavours, roasted by Mark Kingston of Ballymaloe Grain Store. The perfect place to pop in and while away an hour or two.
6. Myo
Facebook Facebook
Serving ethically produced, organic coffee grown in Haiti and hand roasted in Italy, Myo offers a full bodied and full flavoured cup minus the extreme jittery caffeine hit. A delight to sip.
7. Siopa Gan Ainm
Facebook Facebook
You’ll feel right at home in this pantry style cafe where the food is home grown on the farm and kitchen-produced. They serve Matthew Algie’s fresh, tasty, ethical coffee from Thursday to Saturday, and you can help yourself to a good book too.
8. Coffee Central
If it’s coffee on the go that you want, stop off at Coffee Central in the English Market. This coffee making institution has been warming the hearts of shoppers for years, serving delicious dark and medium roast blends, roasted in Wicklow by Clive McCabe.
9. Langford Row Coffee & Music Store
Facebook Facebook
A welcome addition to the south side of the river, this sister cafe to Alchemy on Barrack Street serves up smooth 3fe coffee and mouth watering sangers and cakes to good tunes. Always a hit!
