WITH A GLUT OF MOVIES on TV every Christmas, it can be hard to decide what to pick as you tuck into the pudding and selection boxes.
In case of emergencies, TheJournal.ie has compiled a list of Christmas classics to fall back on:
1. The Muppet Christmas Carol
You really can’t beat the Muppets’ revision of the Charles Dickens classic starring Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge for its Christmas-message-goodness.
Some prefer the sequel set in New York and featuring Irish actress Brenda Fricker as the “Bird Lady”, but there’s something special about the original. Classic moment: That iron-in-the-face incident. Ouch.
Technically, not a traditional Christmas film, true. But Die Hard and its sequel Die Hard 2: Die Harder are great old-school action movies set at Christmas. Yippee-ki-yay…
An annual feature on Irish television, this is Frank Capra’s 1946 story of a man who is taught the meaning of life by an angel he meets on Christmas Eve.
5. The Santa Clause
A recent revision of the ‘who is Santa and how does he go about his business’ theme starring Tim Allen, who very begrudgingly fills Santa’s boots after accidentally killing him on Christmas Eve.
