DESPITE THE FACT that Wikipedia is made up of user-generated content, it’s mostly filled with run of the mill stuff.
You know, the kind of stuff you’d expect to find in an encyclopedia.
Occasionally though, something really special happens.
In this case, it’s not that the information isn’t accurate or factually correct or that it’s comedically outlandish, it’s just brilliantly put together.
It is what we believe to be the best opening paragraph of a Wikipedia entry ever.
In case you can’t read that, it says:
Lieutenant-General Sir Adrian Paul Ghislain Carton de Wiart VC, KBE, CB, CMG, DSO (5 May 1880 – 5 June 1963), was an English officer of Belgian and Irish descent. He fought in the Boer War, World War I, and World War II, was shot in the face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip and ear, survived a plane crash, tunneled out of a POW camp , and bit off his own fingers when a doctor wouldn’t amputate them. He later said “frankly I had enjoyed the war.”
WHAT. A. GUY.
H/T to Shortlist.
