MOST PEOPLE’S FINAL wishes involve being buried in their finest dress or suit. American biker Bill Standley had different ideas, instead choosing to be buried sitting upright on his motorbike in a clear box. Biking fanatic Standley had always expressed his wish for the unique burial, and began work on the creative ‘coffin’ six years before his death at 82. According to KSDK, the Ohio man travelled 49 of America’s 50 states on the 1967 bike.

Speaking to Sky News, Standley’s daughter, Dorothy Brown said that an off-cuff remark from her sister put the idea into her father’s head 18 years ago when he was wondering who would inherit the bike.

He said ‘what am I supposed to do?’ I’ve got two sons, but one bike. My sister just off-handedly said ‘oh dad just be buried with it’. I think it was about two weeks after that that it really hit him, what a great idea. We all still thought he was kidding. Eighteen years later, guess what?

Standley had been sick with lung cancer and lost his battle on January 26.
