POPULAR LONDON-BASED chefs Gastrogays are well known for having the craic on social media while cooking up all sorts of delish meals.
Yesterday, though, they unknowingly stepped into some dangerous territory.
They decided to make some blaas from scratch
And they seemed to turn out class on their Snapchat story
They looked like really good quality blaas when they came out of the oven
So they tweeted out the recipe and because they have an their international and Irish audience they called them “Irish bread rolls”
Which didn’t go down well at all
Because only when they’re made in Waterford are they *technically* blaas
The Gastrogays thought these messages were WAY over the top
They just wanted to share the joy of blaas with the world
They posted on Facebook this morning about blaa-gate, addressing the fact that they mentioned blaas are a protected Waterford item in the Snapchat story:
Now, sharing our own recipe we clearly pre-empted our video with a spiel about blaas having protected status of origin and that *technically* you can’t call these blaas. YES, know-it-alls, we said it before you contacted us saying the exact same thing back to us.
And, oh, was this a cutting response:
We also, in the written recipe and photo we shared, explain nonchalantly that these are ‘Irish bread rolls’… because they fucking are and lots of our followers are English or European, so that explains what this recipe is in terms they understand. They’re not spaceships nor are they daffodils, They are bread rolls. Bread rolls from Ireland, and we’ve given full disclosure on the place they’re from and their given name.
That’s the bread roll haters told.
Now we can all just try to enjoy the delicious blaa, and share the love
And never argue about blaas again.
