Black ice cream is a thing and it looks extremely cool
RAINBOW-HUED foodstuffs may be dominating the internet lately, but chefs haven’t forgotten about all us goths out here.
Morgenstern’s ice cream parlour in New York is now selling an ice cream that is as black as your soul.
Unlike some other black ice creams you might have seen, this one isn’t black because of food dye, or sesame seeds, or (blech) squid ink – it’s made of coconut ash, or “the charred and processed remains of a coconut shell”.

Nick Morgenstern, owner of the parlour, explained to Mic that it’s a form of the increasingly popular ingredient activated charcoal.
The ash gives the ice cream a rich coconut flavour and turns it deep black – it looks wrong, but it sounds so damn right.

Finally, an ice cream that reflects who we are inside. Thank you, Morgenstern’s.
