THE RUBBER BANDITS would not be the Rubber Bandits without their famous plastic bags.
If you’ve ever been curious as to why Blindboy and Mr Chrome don the plastic backs before public appearances, Blindboy explained it on his podcast last year.
It’s not really anonymity at this stage… It’s privacy. I don’t want to be noticed in public because I’m a Z-list Irish celebrity and that is a very cringy existence to be carrying around with you in your day to day life.
No one cares who I am, and I quite enjoy that existence. I can use public transport. I can sit down quite comfortably beside someone on a bus as a regular person and I don’t have to worry about having a big long bus conversation about ‘Horse Outside’.
Last night, Blindboy took to Twitter to finally reveal some of the work that goes into preparing those famous masks.
First, it’s placed onto what appears to be a mannequin’s head.

Then, once it’s heat shrunk, the eyes are carved out with a Stanley knife.

Fans began to point out scary this process is.
Not gonna lie, little bit of a horror movie villain vibe coming off that. Like Saw but instead of death traps people are dropped in a paddling pool with the Trout of No Craic.

Finally, Blindboy revealed why he moulds his bags into masks, instead of just throwing them over his head.
For those asking. There's reasons I do this. A) a moulded bag is breathable, not too hot, stays in place. B) I've found myself in breach of health and safety at venues, or on TV with a normal bag. By heat shrinking and modifying it, it legally becomes a mask & doesn't breach H&S

It’s all in the name of health and safety.
