LAST NIGHT, BLUR were the main headliners on the second night of Electric Picnic in Laois.
And RTÉ 2 were broadcasting live from the festival for one night only.
But about 45 minutes into Blur’s set, RTÉ cut back to the studio and then showed other artists – which left people slightly unhappy
Speaking to DailyEdge.ie, an RTÉ spokesperson explained why they had to move the coverage away from Blur:
RTÉ2 feature the best of the bands that agree to appear on our live broadcast. The duration of the set we show is at the discretion of the artist and the record company and is agreed in advance.
So, the time Blur spent on screen was not decided on the night by RTÉ and had been agreed prior to the Picnic.
During the rest of RTÉ’s coverage, there were constant calls on social media to get Blur back on screen
#bringbackblur started
Once the issue was pressed on Twitter with RTÉ 2 presenter Eoghan McDermott, the same reason was given
So now.
Mystery solved.
