Curiosity grows online for NASA flight director

The whizz-kid who’s helping to uncover the secrets of Mars has become famous in his own right.

DAVID BECKHAM USED to have one, but we’re pretty sure he never worked for NASA.

Bobak Ferdowsi, on the other hand, does, and the world (or at least the female of the species) appear to love him for it.

At this stage you’re probably happy for him, without having any idea who he is.

Well, Bobak or “Mohawk Guy”, as he’s now being called, was the flight controller in the recent landing of Curiosity – the Mars rover, or vehicle – over the weekend.

Having been spotted on the live feed sporting a smile and a hairdo that wasn’t boring or nerd-like, he has become something of an online sensation, with his Twitter following going from under 200 to over 33,000, and counting.

The mohawked one has even become the envy of his colleagues, with a custom T-shirt drawing online interest from one Wil Wheaton, the actor who played Wesley Crusher on the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation.
