It takes a long time, so we’ve distilled it down into four key stages in GIFs.
First you have two litres of cola, boiling away merrily:
After a good long time, you can see the water is boiling off and it has cooked down to the sugar:
In this case, it went on fire shortly afterwards.
And finally, when all the water is gone, here’s what you get. Deep, black, tar-like sludge. This much of it, from a two-litre bottle.
