Here's what happens when you boil a bottle of cola. It's horrifying.

Erk.

WHAT’S LEFT OVER when you boil fizzy cola down? YouTuber CrazyRussianHacker decided to find out – with fascinating results.

It takes a long time, so we’ve distilled it down into four key stages in GIFs.

First you have two litres of cola, boiling away merrily:

After a good long time, you can see the water is boiling off and it has cooked down to the sugar:

In this case, it went on fire shortly afterwards.

And finally, when all the water is gone, here’s what you get. Deep, black, tar-like sludge. This much of it, from a two-litre bottle.

Yes, that’s all inside you when you drink it.
