Bonjour à tous! Nicolas Sarkozy joins Twitter
PERHAPS HE JUST wanted a break from trying to solve the never-ending eurozone crisis.
Nicolas Sarkozy has joined Twitter – and has already accumulated over 30,000 followers in just a few hours.
It’s probably not a coincidence that the French president joined Twitter on the day he is due to announce his re-election bid.
In his first tweet early today, Sarkozy said he was very pleased to launch his Twitter account and thanked everyone for following him.
He used his second tweet to confirm that he will be appearing on French national television tonight where he is expected to launch his candidacy for the upcoming presidential race.
With the first vote due to take place on 22 April, Sarkozy faces a tough battle to be re-elected. Polls show he has an approval rating of just 36 per cent and is now France’s most unpopular incumbent ever.
The French president joins a long list of politicians who are already on Twitter, including Barack Obama and Taoiseach Enda Kenny (although he hasn’t tweeted since last July). No sign of Angela Merkel though – yet.
