Boy sells a kidney so he can buy an iPad 2
A 17-YEAR-OLD boy in China sold a kidney in order to buy an iPad 2.
Xiao Zheng told a local TV station and other Chinese media outlets how he arranged the sale of the kidney over the internet. The story only came to light after the boy’s mother became suspicious.
According to a translation from Fortune China (Mandarin), Zheng explained:
Illegal agents organised a trip to the hospital and paid him the money which amounts to around €2,317.
The boy’s mother became suspicious after her son returned home with an iPad 2 and an iPhone in his hands and forced him to reveal the truth. Watch this report from BBC News:
Zheng’s mother informed the police who are now investigating the matter, according to Techie Buzz.
BBC News also reports that the case highlights China’s black market in organ trafficking.
But perhaps it also highlights the measures some will go to in order to acquire the much sought after tablet device which in its first version sold over 15 million devices.
