THE BRENNAN BROTHERS joined Ryan Tubridy this morning as he was broadcasting from Kenmare, Co. Kerry. Ryan’s on a tour of the Wild Atlantic Way and by the sounds of it, he’s having the time of his life.

Ryan brought up the story of watching an episode of ‘At Your Service’ where John Brennan (hospitality extraordinaire no less) told the owner of Kiersey’s Tearooms in Co. Wexford to take jelly and ice cream OFF the menu.

Ryan was clearly affronted by this because as we know jelly and ice cream is a staple of many of our childhood. Ryan felt very passionate about the issue and described jelly and ice cream as;

One of the great gastronomical treats a boy or man could have.You being a gastronomic snob, went in and said sure what are you doing with that on the menu, get rid of it!

The world has never seen such passion for the simple jelly and ice cream. It turns out that Ryan felt so passionate about said issue that he actually texted John to express his disappointment that he made Jenny the owner make such a horrible choice. Even Francis spoke up describing himself as ‘a jelly man’ to which Ryan replied.

It’s like the Collins and Dev of jelly.

The Irish Civil War might have played out very differently it was fought over jelly rather than the 6 counties but I digress.

It turns out John might have been onto something though because lads revisited Kiersey’s where they had replaced jelly and ice cream with blueberry tart which according to John was ‘walking out the door’. That settles that so.

However, John and Francis decided that Ryan’s passion deserved a present so while he was celebrating his 45th birthday last night, they sent him over a massive ‘bucket’ of jelly and ice cream for himself and his guests. What a lovely gesture.

There’s a lesson to be learned here and that is always be passionate about the things you love because the Brennan brothers might just give you a bucketful of it for your birthday.
