AH, TWITTER.
A place where you can interact with your heroes… and send them your very important opinion on their life’s work and achievements.
And so it was last night when Brian O’Driscoll was tagged into a chat about a Welsh region appointing new captain Cory Hill
BOD famously said he wasn’t aware of who Hill is when he was called up to the Lions squad in the summer.
O’Driscoll sent a diplomatic tweet back, and it was all friendly stuff
Twitter done well.
But @welshtricky1 wasn’t having it - he called BOD out
And O’Driscoll had the most cutting comeback ready to go
*drops mic*
O’Driscoll’s one-liner response got hundreds of retweets last night, and deservedly so, as Irish people rowed in to defend his honour:
His achievements speak for themselves a genuine superstar
Freedom of opinion is a wonderful right. You certainly have the right to have the wrong opinion
It caused a mini diplomatic incident between two great nations:
Trickster…I like pretty much all Welsh people, but you have let them all down with this tweet. They as a nation are disappointed in you
The lesson here? Calling O’Driscoll overrated on Twitter isn’t going to end well for your mentions, and you might just get burned by one of the best to play the game.
