Britney Spears' music is being used to scare away Somali pirates

Apparently they really can’t stand her.

ACCORDING TO BRITISH Merchant Navy officer Rachel Owens, Britney Spears’ songs are now being used to scare away Somali pirates.

Yep.  That’s what you just read.

Speaking to the Metro, Owens said:

Her songs were chosen by the security team because they thought the pirates would hate them most.

Apparently the pirates hate Western culture and therefore the music of the pop princess is the perfect defence.  The ships simply use specifically targeted speakers to blare the music at potential pirates.

If you’ve seen Captain Phillips you’ll be familiar with just how dangerous Somali pirates are.  In 2011 there were 176 pirate attacks on ships around the Horn of Africa.

It’s good to know that an effective defence has been found.

According to Owens, ‘It’s so effective the ship’s security rarely needs to resort to firing guns’.

H/T Metro.
