Brunker: Pray for Blathnaid tweet 'a mistake'

The All-Ireland Talent Show judge says a tweet asking people to pray for co-judge Blathnaid Ní Chofaigh was ill-judged.

TV STAR Amanda Brunker has conceded that she over-reacted by sending a tweet on Sunday night asking her followers to ‘pray’ for an on-air colleague after she fell ill.

Brunker – a judge representing the Dublin region on RTÉ’s All-Ireland Talent Show – had tweeted on Sunday evening, after the show had finished broadcasting, asking any of her followers who prayed to “pls say a few for my pal Blathnaid. V worried about her right now xxxx”.

The tweet sparked many worried replies to Brunker’s account, with dozens of followers sending responses asking if Blathnaid – another judge on the show, who represents ‘the East’ – was seriously injured. Responding to one, Brunker said her colleague had taken “a turn”.

As it transpired, Meath native Ní Chofaigh had been brought to hospital after the show complaining of stomach pains during the show’s live broadcasts, and was whisked away in an ambulance between the early performance show and the later results broadcast.

Yesterday afternoon, former Miss Ireland Brunker posted a further update, reading:

Good news. All good with Blathnaid folks. Sorry for worrying you all last night x

The Irish Sun quotes an RTÉ spokesperson as saying Blathnaid’s health concerns “turned out to be relatively minor in that she expects to be back on her feet and on our screens by the end of the week.”

RTÉ reports that Ní Chofaigh is known to have had previous problems with a twisted bowel, which was operated on three times in 2009.
