Bus campaign to urge pope to ordain women
POPE BENEDICT WILL not escape the issue of the ordainment of women priests on his upcoming trip to London.
Members of the Catholic Woman’s Ordination have ensured the city’s buses are bearing adverts about the subject.
The group paid £15,000 (€18,245) for the sides of buses to bear the message: “Pope Benedict – Ordain Women Now!”. The ads have been booked for a month and will run on key routes – including past Westimister Hall where the pope is due to deliver a speech on 17 September.
WOC spokeswoman Pat Brown told Reuters: “We do not want to be disruptive, but I think the church has got to change or it will not survive”.
WOC have also launched another group, called Catholic Voices for Reform, which aims to discuss controversial issues like the running of the church.
The CWO will not be taking part in the Protest the Pope demonstration, which includes humanists, secularists and gay rights campaigners.
