This new Calvin Klein ad features an upskirt photo and people are outraged

“Disrespectful.”

A COUPLE OF days ago, Calvin Klein in the US launched their latest ad campaign which is based around the hashtag #mycalvins.

It seemed to cover similar ground to many of their ads featured in the past.

But one of the shots that they posted to Instagram has come in for a lot of criticism

It was immediately labelled as a disrespectful upskirt photo

And the comments on Instagram took it to task on using the term “flashing” when it’s something completely different:

That’s not “flashing”; that’s the kind of shot that women are struggling to get made illegal. Way to help invalidate their issue and victimize them further.

Needless to say, it just hasn’t gone down well given the legality of the act outside of a photo shoot:

This is disgusting. Men go to jail for putting cameras on their bags getting up shots of women. Thanks to people and companies like this. It seems like it’s the norm to do that…

Writing in The Pool today, Laura Craik outlines why exactly the shot is so bad:

The reason it isn’t okay is because somewhere down the line, when a woman complains about an upskirt shot being taken without her knowledge, some fool will cite “the Calvin Klein ad” as evidence that women are relaxed about upskirt shots – and that those who aren’t, should be.

The controversy has made its way to Complex, The Daily Mail and Buzzfeed today as well many American outlets.

CK hasn’t commented on the furore yet, but arguments rage across social media

Not a good look.
