THE CANNES FILM festival has kicked off and it’s got everyone talking for all the right reasons. Mainly because this year the jury for the festival is female dominated and they all look fierce as HELL.
Most exciting part of #cannes this year? This jury. pic.twitter.com/34wUexjzwK

Cate Blanchett is the president of this year’s jury along with Kristen Steward, 13th director Ava DuVernay, Burundian singer Khadja Ni and French actress Léa Seydoux.
Also on the jury are Taiwanese actor Chang Chen, French director Rober Jules Guédiguian, French-Canadian director Denis Villeneuve and Russian director Andrey Zvyahintsev.

In the official photocall, the women looked absolutely amazing but Cate Blanchett reminded us all that this shouldn’t be about looks.
Asked about the female jury members serving looks on the Cannes red carpet, Cate Blanchett essentially drops the mic: "Being attractive doesn't preclude being intelligent"

However that being said, I do need to find someone who looks at me the way Kristen Stewart looks at Cate Blanchett.
Here's a cut scene from CAROL where Kristen Stewart pushes Rooney Mara out of the way and says, "I always know what I'd like to order for lunch." pic.twitter.com/SQcSB8sMQV

With everything that has happened in Hollywood in the last few months with #MeToo and #TimesUp, a female dominated jury at one of the biggest film festivals in the world is seen as a big statement from the festival. However, according to Cate, the movement didn’t play a role in picking the jury or the films in the competition.
There are several women in competition. They are not there because of their gender, they are there because of the quality of their work. We will assess them as filmmakers, as we should be.
Fair enough. Nobody should be winning prizes or getting on juries based solely on their gender. We’re here for it.

Ava looks dope, of course as do Léa, KStew and Cate. But go awfff Khadja Nin! pic.twitter.com/gFkiGsqnZM
Either way everyone seems delighted with the make up of the jury this year and we can see why. More of this please.
