10 cartoon intros from the 90s which remind us that Saturday morning TV was only perfect
SATURDAY MORNINGS WERE once reserved for marathon cartoon sessions.
While you were dragged kicking and screaming out of your bed from Monday to Friday, you thought nothing of getting up at 6am on a weekend and trailing downstairs for hours of interrupted viewing.
S’just how you rolled.
And if you’re an 80s baby, you’ll know that the cartoons of the 90s will, in all likelihood, never be bettered.
And here are just a few you binged on while ploughing through countless bowls of cereal on a Saturday morning.
1. Johnson and Friends
Tapping into every child’s assumption that their toys came alive the minute they turned their back, Johnson and Friends had us staring suspiciously through a crack in our bedroom door on more than one occasion.
2. The Raccoons
If it wasn’t for Cyril Sneer and his dastardly plans, we all know The Raccoons would have lived an interrupted life of utter contentment in Evergreen Forest.
3. Babar
Talk about your warm and fuzzy glows, Babar told the story of a family of elephants who could rock a crown and a dressing gown like no other.
4. The Trapdoor
Perhaps one of the creepier offerings in the realm of children’s TV, The Trapdoor opening theme still gives us a healthy dose of The Fear.
5. James Bond Junior
If you needed dramz, James Bond Jr was your only man. Nephew to the man himself, James chased S.C.U.M around the world, and we were right there with him on every mission.
6. Shoe People
Who doesn’t love the personification of footwear? Quaint beyond all belief, Shoe People actually went on to win a BAFTA.
7. Bobby’s World
This cartoon is responsible for opening a generation of children up to the concept of noogies, thanks to Bobby’s boisterous Uncle Ted and his predilection for doling them out.
8. Captain Planet
Undoubtedly our hero and someone who was more than capable of taking pollution down to zero, this lad was your only man when it came to environmental issues.
9. Rugrats
It was a show about a band of brave babies, and we bloody loved it.
10. Hey Arnold
He had a head shaped like an American football, and a baseball cap the size of a postage stamp, and Helga was only bloody weak for him.
