FORGET DOGS, CATS are a man’s best friend.
Craig Jeeves from Melbourne, Australia claims that his tabby cat Sally saved his life by waking him up when his house went on fire on Sunday night.
When the eight-year-old adopted cat couldn’t initially wake a sleeping Jeeves up, she jumped on his chest and began ‘screaming’ loudly in his face.
Jeeves told 7 News that it was the loudest scream he’d ever heard, and after the initial shock, he realised that the house was going up in flames.
I smelt the smoke and jumped out of bed. I don’t think I would have woken up. I’m a pretty deep sleeper. She saved my life.
Captain Paul Spinks of the Country Fire Authority said that Jeeves was lucky to be alive due to the quick spread of the fire.
Jeeves was found by fire crews in the bushes outside his home and was treated for smoke inhalation. He’s currently staying with neighbours as his home was completely gutted from the fire. All his possessions apart from some coins and his mobile, have been lost.
Speaking to ODN, the Wandin North man said, “I’m happy to be alive but you can’t replace the memories”.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
