Stowaway cat survives 6,400 mile boat trip from Philippines to LA
A FOUR-YEAR-OLD that stowed away in a container ship headed from Manila in the Philippines to Los Angeles is in good nick after surviving the trip without food or water.
The cat was found inside a freight container when the ship docked and the container was claimed by a business owner based in the City of Industry, an industrial suburb of LA.
Los Angeles’ Department of Animal Care and Control have been caring for the cat – which had been named Pinay – since it arrived on 16 July, and has regained some of its strength and put on some weight.
DACC’s director Marcia Mayeda said:
The DACC is now searching for someone to adopt the cat, saying she needs someone with “considerable experience dealing with skittish cats”.
