CeeLo Green quits Twitter after rape and consent tweets

The Crazy and F**k You singer has pleaded no contest to drug charges.

F**K YOU SINGER CeeLo Green has deleted his Twitter account after posting a series of tweets around the issue of rape and consent.

Green pleaded no contest on Friday to furnishing ecstasy to a woman without her consent during a dinner in LA in October 2012. He was sentenced to probation and community service.

When he was charged in relation to the drug incident in October 2013 prosecutors had rejected a rape charge due to lack of evidence, reports Complex.

Green’s lawyers had said that the pair had had consensual sex.

After his court appearance Green took to Twitter to attempt to define rape and the idea of consent. The tweets have since been deleted, but screengrabs exist via @omgLSP.

Green went on to delete many of his tweets, saying he didn’t want “negative energy” in his timeline. Yesterday he deleted his entire account, but not before tweeting:

Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context.
I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it..
…was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I’d never condone the harm of any women. Thank you.
