Channel 4 hires Rubberbandits

Britain’s Channel 4 has commissioned Irish company Sideline Productions to make three comedy shorts with The Rubberbandits for a new online talent series.

COMEDY DUO THE Rubberbandits are teaming up with a BAFTA award-winning director to make three comedy shorts for Channel 4.

The Limerick pair have been hired to make the pieces for new online UK and Ireland comic talent series, Comedy Blaps.

IFTN reports that Dublin-based company Sideline Productions, and Irish director Declan Lowney, will work with the bandits to produce the shorts – only five companies out of 500 applicants were commissioned in the initial phase.

Declan Lowney has previously worked on Cold Feet, Father Ted and Little Britain, writes RTÉ.

The Rubberbandits ‘Horse Outside’ video has now hit seven million YouTube hits.

The Limerick Leader got reaction from the pair,  ”Channel 4 want to confuse the British public with the help of Declan Lowney who directed Father Ted in exchange for the Queen’s shilling. Ah go on so…for the laugh.”

Blaps will be filmed in Ireland in September and will go live on www.channel4.com from October.

First up though is at date at Stradbally in two weeks time – The Rubberbandits have a Saturday slot at Electric Picnic.

In June MTV filmed a special ‘The Rubberbandits Guide to New York’  - watch it here:
