Love Island viewers turn on Charlotte Crosby for 'playing the victim' over Dr Alex remarks

Well, that escalated quickly.

CHARLOTTE CROSBY CAME in for substantial criticism on Twitter last night, and it’s all down to remarks she made about Dr Alex’s sunburn on Love Island.

It all kicked off when the former Geordie Shore star decided to share her feelings on Love Island, honing in specifically on Dr Alex, his ‘wooden plank personality’ and his ‘vile pink face’.

Yeah, not exactly one to hold back.

Alex’s family were quick to respond to Charlotte’s remarks by retweeting the original post and highlighting the difference between critiquing an individual’s behaviour and deriding their appearance.

Expressing an opinion for disliking someone’s personality or mannerisms is understandable, but to attack people for their physical appearance could be considered bullying. Some people are genetically more susceptible to sunlight, some people have slower metabolisms.

With the number of suicides and mental health problems related to cyber bullying we would have expected better from someone with such an influencial online following. If anyone is bullied because of their physical appearance, don’t stand for it or speak to others for help.

Charlotte acknowledged their response by stating she had a right as a Love Island viewer to comment on Dr Alex, and apologised if her remark on his appearance offended anyone.

She ended the series of tweets with a final dig at both Alex and his family, writing:

They are new to this all so it’s understandable they incredibly over sensitive. But don’t worry give it a year or so no1 will have much to say about Alex. (sic)

However, it seems like Charlotte’s response to the issue only served to alienate her from viewers, who agreed with Dr Alex’s family.

As a result, Charlotte was on the receiving end of thousands of negative messages, which she referenced during a tearful Instagram story last night.

Crying, Charlotte said that by highlighting her comment about Dr Alex, his family essentially encouraged social media users to bully her.

Twitter, however, isn’t buying it.
