Chris Brown promoter hints that Rihanna will join him in Dublin
ANY INTERNET RUMOURS that Chris Brown might be cancelling next week’s Dublin show have been put to rest by the promoter of the O2 gig
Sharon Kelly from Music Events Ireland – who’s promoting the show along with Geestar – told TheJournal.ie that Chris Brown will definitely be “in Ireland in a few days”.
Last week Chris Brown cancelled a show in Guyana after local protests over his 2009 beating of then-girlfriend Rihanna.
Kelly also said that around 10,500 tickets have been sold for the concert on Monday 3 December. The O2 holds around 13,000.
According to the promoter Brown has a lot of “excursions with Rihanna” planned in Dublin, although when pushed for more information Kelly said that it’s just “rumours” that she’ll be coming with him.
Further requests for comment from MEI on Brown’s 2009 conviction for assaulting Rihanna have yet to be returned. Earlier this month the entertainment society in Twitter pulled a competition offering tickets to the show after complaints.
Dublin-based DJs DJ Mo-K and DJ Tando will be playing support on the night, after the Original Rudeboys turned down an invitation to open the show.
It’s thought that a number of fans will travel over from the mainland UK to see Brown perform, as there are no dates there on his current tour.
The Home Office in the UK previously told TheJournal.ie that it was unlikely to make any comment on the current status of any one individual being allowed to enter the country, but has said in the past that it reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone guilty of a serious criminal offence.
