IF YOU’RE LOOKING for someone to make the impact of Brexit seem more akin to a bumbling comedy than a global catastrophe, Chris O’Dowd is the man for the job, and right now we love him for it.
While discussing Britain’s relations with the EU at the annual US-Ireland Alliance’s Oscar Wilde Awards in California this week, the Roscommon-native threw in his tuppence worth.
Commenting on the impact Britain’s departure from the European Union will have on Ireland, Chris imagined there’d be no shortage of people hoping to get their hands on an Irish passport.
“I think we’re going to have a lot more British people in the country,” he surmised.
Coming with their tails between their legs looking for passports! What a mess yee’ve made of it! Yee fecking eejits!
“That’s my thoughts on it,” the 39-year-old confirmed to the Press Association, lest there be any confusion.
Oh sure, it grossly underestimated the severity of the situation, but look it’s much-needed light relief at this stage.
And if you’re here for any more of Chris’ political analogy, we have you sorted.
While appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden this week, Chris seemed particularly concerned with President Trump.
Interestingly, however, it wasn’t his policies or ideals that Chris was keen to discuss, but the fact that he had never actually heard the POTUS laugh.
Speaking of a recent day he spent with his wife, Dawn O’Porter, Chris told James: “We happened to have our Green Card interviews so we spent most of the day at City Hall looking at massive photos of Donald Trump everywhere.”
I’m not saying he’s not a handsome man, of course, but he’s very smiley in the photos and it occurred to me – I hadn’t thought about it until I saw these extraordinary smiling photos – but it occurred to me that I’ve never heard him laugh.
“I’ve never heard the man laugh!” Chris marvelled. “I can only presume he’s not familiar with my work.”
Hey-ohhhhh.
