It’s not a secret that Chrissy Teigen is no fan of Donald Trump.
So relatable.
Tomorrow marks the 3 year anniversary of Trump announcing his bid for presidency - and calling all Mexicans 'rapists' in the process. With each new lowpoint of his presidency it's difficult to imagine a new, lower, point.
But Donald Trump continues to exceed the low expectations upon him.
Over the past month, in an effort to crack down on undocumented immigration, parents seeking asylum have had their children separated from them in detention centres. Many were told their children were being taken away to be bathed, only for them to not return. The United Nations human rights office as criticized the law as being inhumane.
One story emerged of a mother having to be handcuffed in a detention centre as she fought against her child being taken off her as she breastfed.
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend were aghast at the cruel new policy.
So naturally they used their platform to highlight the situation and raise funds for a nonprofit organisation that helps refugees.
In a message posted on twitter, Chrissy says:
John and I are outraged to see and hear the horror stories of immigrant families seeking asylum and refuge in America being ripped apart due to the inhumane policies of the Trump administration. These actions are cruel, anti-family and go against everything we believe this country should represent.
The President celebrates his 72nd birthday today. On this auspicious occasion, in order to Make Trump’s Birthday Great Again, each member of our family has donated $72,000 to the ACLU.
Chrissy and John donated $72,000 each, as well $72,000 from each of their children respectively, Luna (2) and newborn Miles.
The pair also encouraged other to donate $7.20 or $72 or whatever they could afford.
Teigen has been an outspoken critic of Trump for years. Last July, Trump famously blocked Chrissy on twitter after one tweet too many but a federal judge last month ruled that it was unconstitutional.
