Switching on the Grafton Street Christmas lights is heralded as the official start date of the festive season.

ALTHOUGH IT’S STILL mid-November, Christmas seems to be getting an earlier start date every year.

With Mariah Carey already being heard telling everyone what she wants for Christmas and decorations hung in almost every store around the country, it was the turn of the Christmas lights on Dublin’s Grafton Street to be switched on.

The event happened outside Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre yesterday evening and it was one lucky Cinderella who got to press the red button.

The switching on of the lights on a street that thousands will shop on in the coming weeks is heralded as the official start to the festive season.
