REPUBLICAN SENATE CANDIDATE Roy Moore’s controversial campaign came to an end today – after there was a stunning upset at the polls from Democrat Doug Jones in Alabama.
Moore had been plagued by accusations of sexual misconduct throughout, but was still expected to win in the conservative heartland that Trump swept to victory in last year.
Last night, when the campaign was still live, Moore’s spokesperson Ted Crockett appeared on Jake Tapper’s CNN show – and this snippet of the interview has taken on a life of its own

Asking why Moore believes that Muslims should not be allowed in Congress, Crockett replied:
“Because you have to swear on the bible… I had to do it, I’m an elected official three terms. I had to swear on a bible, you have to swear on a bible to be an elected official in the United States of America”
Tapper came straight back on him:
You don’t actually have to swear on a bible. You can swear on anything – I don’t know if you knew that. You can swear on a Jewish bible.
Crockett:
Oh no! I swore on the bible. I’ve done it three times.
Tapper:
I’m sure you have. I ‘m sure you’ve picked a bible. But the law is not that you have to swear on a Christian bible. That is not the law.
What followed was about ten seconds of seriously awkward silence, as there wasn’t really an answer to Tapper’s point
It’s brutal television
He finally got a retort in:
I know that Donald Trump did when we made him President.
Tapper:
Because he’s Christian and he picked it.
Oh, the humanity.
It’s been watched 5.5 million times on Twitter alone – and has taken on legendary status in just under 18 hours.
