LATELY, COLIN FARRELL has been extremely endearing.
Himself and Nicole Kidman acted as mentors to Dublin actor Barry Keoghan when they all worked on the movie The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Kidman was worried about Keoghan’s passion for boxing and how it would impact on his health, but Colin insisted that he’s got to follow his dream.
Farrell is a totally different person to the troubled Lothario of the early 2000s, who had relationships with Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie and Demi Moore (to name but a few). He had substance abuse issues and has had issues in the past with people stalking him, but he seemed extremely at ease while chatting away with Ellen.
They opened by mentioning his previous ‘manscaping’ mishap.
He spoke about his sons Henry and James and how little they’re interested in his work.
James Farrell is 14, so naturally he hasn’t got much of an interest in Colin’s upcoming role in Dumbo. Farrell’s younger son Henry was similarly disinterested and expressed it through a little hand wiggle, like so:
Ellen asked if Colin would like his sons to get into the same business as him. He said:
Both my boys can do whatever they wish to do. Wherever the path of life takes them. As long as they’re happy, and they’re discovering life and they’re ideally surrounded by decent people – which we can’t always control.
Ellen told Colin he was a good father, but he was a bit reluctant to accept the compliment, explaining that he’s away from home far more than he’d like to be.
I don’t know about that. I’m away for a long time y’know. Five months on the road – I’m not going to say my life is tough or anything, don’t worry about that – I’m not feeling sorry for myself. But five months away from my kids and both moms who are incredible mothers, it’s a lot for my boys. I miss them so much, they come and visit but thank God for Facetime.
He also confirmed to Ellen that he’s dating someone – and that Facetime doesn’t help in that situation. His mysterious new partner isn’t in the entertainment business, but he described her as an extremely busy woman and said that they can often be like “two ships passing in the night”, but they make sure to find a port that they can “rendezvous” at.
