COLIN FARRELL IS on course to have a pretty big year with starring roles in highly anticipated films like The Beguiled and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
The Beguiled is a Civil War drama written and directed by Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides) and stars Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning. The holy trifecta, in other words.
Here’s the plot:
At a girls’ school in Virginia during the Civil War, where the young women have been sheltered from the outside world, a wounded Union soldier is taken in. Soon, the house is taken over with sexual tension, rivalries, and an unexpected turn of events.
Our own Colin Farrell plays the aforementioned soldier.
The film is set to debut at the Cannes Film Festival next week and Sofia Coppola spoke to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the film’s premiere.
In the interview, she explained that she was looking for someone “really masculine” when someone suggested Colin Farrell.
The soldier had to be really masculine and a contrast to these delicate Southern ladies. And I just met different actors, and Fred Roos, my great consultant, suggested Colin. I had met him before, but hadn’t thought of him for this.
Once she met him, she decided that he was the “thinking woman’s hunk”.
But when I met him, he’s very charismatic and charming and it felt like he could be the kind of thinking woman’s hunk that we needed. He had to be sexy to them, but also kind of mysterious and complicated.
*wiggles eyebrows*
Elsewhere, Farrell’s co-star Nicole Kidman spilled the beans on what it was like to give Colin Farrell a sponge bath in The Beguiled.
It was actually really lovely, because it was late in the afternoon. He lay there. I really thought he was asleep. I bathed him for hours. Maybe two hours of cleaning his hands and his whole body.
To quote the great Nelly: “It’s getting hot in here…”
