Come swim with me: Ronan Keating wants you to take dip for charity

Singer appeals for public to join him in Irish Sea 56-mile relay challenge for cancer research funding – and warns that he’s not a strong swimmer.

CROONER RONAN KEATING is looking for volunteers to swim across the Irish Sea with him and Richard Branson to raise cash for cancer research.

The 56-mile relay challenge between Holyhead and Dublin is organised by Cancer Research UK and has a fundraising target of  £1m (€1.13m).

The event in early September also hopes to set a new Guinness World Record for the gruelling distance.

A spokeswoman for the challenge said: “If you can swim 3,000 metres in open water and can raise at least £100 (€113) by July 15 then you can apply for one of two places on the team open to members of the public.”

Keating, whose mother Marie died from breast cancer in 1998, said: “I’m not a strong swimmer so open water swimming in the Irish Sea is going to be a real challenge for me.”

Cancer Research UK is Britain’s leading cancer charity and funds groundbreaking work on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the condition which has helped save countless lives.

Swimmers interested in taking part in the Irish Sea swim are asked to visit www.the-swim.co.uk for more details.
